Group Fitness Classes

Flagstaff Athletic Club offers a wide variety of group classes to meet the needs of members of all fitness levels.  Our professional group fitness instructors are certified (or working towards certification) by ACE, ACSM, AEA and/or AFFA. Heart rates are monitored in all classes to ensure safety and effectiveness, and modifications are demonstrated to lower intensity. If you ever feel you are working too hard, or feel discomfort doing a particular exercise, ease off, and speak with your instructor. Our group fitness floors are of suspended wood, which provides a resilient, safe surface that helps absorb impact.  Each class is designated with one or all fitness levels:  Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, but anyone may attend and modify. If you need individual instruction prior to class, please give Ruana Robertson, Group Fitness Manager a call at 773-2746. We’ll be happy to help in any way we can!

ATHLETIC CONDITIONING:  Part core and balance training, part circuit training, part speed agility and quickness drills.  Athletic Conditioning is the class of choice for those wanting a great athletic challenge.  Don’t let the name intimidate you, all ability levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.  You will get a full body workout and burn a ton of calories in 60-90 minutes.      Level:  Intermediate

BARRE-FUSION:  This class is a hybrid of The willPower Method®’s exercises and ballet barre skills You will bring your muscle groups to the point of fatigue and then stretch to lengthen them.

BODYCOMBAT™:  This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as Karate, Boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.  You will strike, punch, kick and kata your way to superior cardio fitness.  Bring a towel because You will sweat!!

BODYPUMP™:  The Original Weights class that builds strength, tones your body and pushes you to the limit every time.  It will challenge all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like Squats, Presses, Lifts and Curls.                                   Level:  All                    60 min.

            BP and BC Express classes are 30-45 min.

CORE:  Vital for correct posture and movement; abdominal training to develop a strong and well-conditioned trunk.                                                                Level:  All                    30 min.

GYMNASTIC STRENGTH TRAINING:  World class gymnastics strength training for the complete novice.  Build your dream body using the GymnasticBodies methods.  Build strength, flexibility, mobility and balance.    This includes Foundations, Handstand Basics and Stretch. It is a fee class.

GRIT™Series: Three Unique workouts designed to drive different results.  All are 30 min. HIIT (High Interval Intensity Training) formats.

            GRIT™ Strength:  Works all major muscle groups to reduce fat and help develop muscle.

GRIT™ Plyo:  Incorporates principles of plyometrics to build power, increase speed and leg strength.  Uses power agility training and increases muscular endurance and stamina.

GRIT™ Cardio:  Explosive high-impact body weight-based workout.

                                                                        Level:  Intermediate & Above

HARDCORPS:  This overall conditioning and toning workout is composed of  P.E. style drills that are sure to complement your weekend activities.  We incorporate upper and lower body exercises into one dynamite athletic conditioning class.

H20 CLASSES:

Aqua X:  Includes stretching, strengthening and range of motion exercises.  Ability to swim is not required.  The class uses aquabelts or noodles for deep-water exercise.

H20 Cardio:  High intensity workout in shallow water.  Can easily be modified by beginners.

Aqua for Arthritis:  Based on the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program.  This class includes gentle stretching, strengthening and range of motion exercises.

SPLASH:  High energy, high intensity aqua class in the outdoor pool. (June –August)

CYCLING:  Bring your outdoor cycling training indoors!  This class is geared to both the beginner & elite participant.  Experience athletic, adrenaline pumping, cycling drills, all done to motivational music within a group setting.

            Serious Cycling:  Increased training and foundational knowledge about cycling.  It is a fee class.

            VO Cycling (Virtual Outdoor Cycling):  Challenge yourself physically while also allowing the mind to guide your body through perceived movement.  Visit beautiful destinations as you climb and sprint through an hour that will leave you in a great mood and with an improved fitness level!                                      RPM®:  Find your own rhythm in a cycling workout that delivers maximum cardio results with minimum impact on your joints.                                                   Level:  All                     45 min.

 DANCE: 

Adult Jazz:  Jazz technique.  Improve grace, posture, carriage, coordination and have fun all at the same time!  Traditional Jazz dance class, not a dance-based fitness class.  It is a fee class.

            Ballroom & Latin:  Come and enjoy 8 weeks of fun, laidback and detailed steps and styling of Tango, Salsa, Cha-cha and Waltz.  It is a fee class.

JUST WEIGHT:  A strength training, body sculpting class. Resistance devices and hand held weights provide the overload for effective muscle definition and increased muscle strength.

GROUP FITNESS HAPPY HOUR:  Each Friday afternoon, you will get to take this great class.  The format changes weekly to include some of our most popular classes!

MOVEMENT & STRENGTH:  A cardio workout for the Young at Heart!  Music and Fun designed to keep you moving !

Nia:  Tap into your inner dancer, warrior and athlete!  Nia is a dynamic, expressive and holistic mind/body fitness fusion that blends dance, martial arts and healing arts.  Born over 30 years ago, this barefoot practice encourages awareness of sensation, self-expression, creativity and adaptations for all levels and all bodies.

ON THE BALL:  Includes CORE and Strengthening exercises using the stability ball which adds the

PILATES:  Pilates develops core, strength and body alignment with the added benefits of increased flexibility, balance and improved posture.

POUND:  Channel your inner performer and rock your body with this modern-day fusion of movement and music.  Drum along using Ripstix™--weighted drumsticks. Pilates and Cardio moves while drumming!

SILVERSNEAKERS®

Classic:  Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living.  Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated or standing support.                                            Level:  All                   45 min.

STEP:  The cardio workout with muscle! STEP training involves stepping up and down on an adjustable platform.  This unique high intensity, low impact workout appeals to everyone. This class is a good all-around cardiovascular, fat burning workout.                     Level:  All                          60 min.

Beg Step:  A beginning level of Step that is less intense and has less complex combos.  Build up your confidence and expertise before entering the STEP class (listed above).                 

             Level:  Beginner         60 min.

FLEX-ABILITY + CORE:  Treat yourself to a non-impact workout that will increase your ability to stretch, as well as strengthen your core muscles.  Both are an important component of functionality and injury prevention.  A class that will be beneficial in everything you do in your daily life.

willPower & grace® :  Inspiring, high-energy, cardiovascular and total body conditioning workout.  This unique workout is a barefoot workout and is for students of all levels.  Your barefoot experience will include cardio-sculpt, intensity of boot camp, self-awareness of a yoga practice, discipline of Pilates and the uplifting philosophy of a meditation session.               Level:  All                     60 min.

willPower for girlPower:  A 6 week program developed to empower girls 8-18.  It teaches girls a balanced approach to getting fit! The fundamental mission is to educate, inspire and MOVE young women, teaching them to get fit, train efficiently and develop positive philosophies.  This is a fee class.

                                                                                    Level:  All                    60 min.

WOW:  Women on Weights.  4 week session that will include discussion, support, lifestyle changes, basic nutritional guidelines and workouts.  Side effects may include weight loss, a positive self-image and a healthier lifestyle for you!  This is a fee class.               Level:  All                    60 min.

YOGA:  A mind-body workout that increases your strength and flexibility and decreases your stress.  See “Yoga at FAC” for description of each type Yoga class.

ZUMBA:

Zumba Party!:  Zumba combines high energy & motivating music with unique moves & combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries.  It’s a blend of cumbia, salsa, samba, merengue and Latin dances designed to be fun & easy to do.                                                                                                 Level:  All                     60 min.

Zumba® Kids:  Zumba for children and their families to enjoy with lots of fun and great music.
