Get your family ready for that vacation to the beach! Join certified Scuba Instructor Chuck Hofner for in depth snorkeling classes at FACE. Classes are two hours in length and are offered on several Saturdays throughout the year! Chuck provides all of the equipment and covers topics such as maintenance, dives, clears, fin kicks, snorkel and vest use and buddy rules. Kids, and kids at heart, are welcome! The lifeguard training class, in association with the American Red Cross, is designed to teach all of the necessary skills required to become a certified Red Cross Lifeguard. Taught by experienced Lifeguard Instructors, this is a 28-32 hour class that is physically demanding and requires excellent swimming skills. If you are a strong swimmer and at least 15 years of age you are encouraged to participate! Classes are held at FACE in the conference room and indoor pool. The class is offered each April and generally follows this class schedule: Wednesday and Thursday 6-10pm, Friday 6-9pm and Sat and Sun 8am-5pm. The Beginner/Intermediate class is geared towards adults who can swim but are looking for instruction on better and more efficient stroke techniques. This interval training class will focus primarily on freestyle but will also cover the remaining competitive strokes. The advanced class is designed for fitness and competitive swimmers looking for a high intensity swim workout. We will work on improving technique and teach some tricks for fast open water swimming! Sessions are held at the FACW indoor pool September thru May and at the FACE outdoor pool May-September. (Usually there is a class break in November and December due to the holidays) Classes are held one evening per week and taught by Liz Hobbs and/or Therese Umholtz. If you are between the ages of 6-14, can swim one lap of the pool (50 yards) and are ready to improve your stroke, then we are looking for you! So grab your cap and goggles and get signed up for a 5 week session of the Torpedoes Swim Team! The Torpedoes meet at the FACW indoor pool September thru May and at the FACE outdoor pool June – August. Check the newsletter for day and time or contact Dan Silva for specific information! This is a non-competitive team that focuses on team work, swim terminology and the 4 competitive strokes: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle.
